Behind the scenes of a wedding chaperone’s day

A Day in the Life of a Westie at His Pawrents’ Wedding

Weddings are full of excitement, emotions, and a flurry of activity—wonderful for humans, but a little overwhelming for a four-legged guest of honor. That was exactly the case for one very special Westie on the day his pawrents said “I do.”

A Ruff Start

His morning started in chaos—new people, different routines, and a buzz of energy that made him feel completely out of kilter. As his wedding dog chaperone, my job wasn’t just to watch over him, but to help him relax and enjoy the next 12 hours by my side. No small task for a pup meeting me for the first time!

Bonding Through the Whirlwind

Each time we stepped out for a short walk or toilet break, familiar faces appeared—guests he knew, the wedding venue bustling with excitement, and even glimpses of Mum and Dad. It was a lot to take in, yet he handled it like a champ.

Why? Because in those first moments together, we bonded. He trusted me, and that trust made all the difference.

This is a special I have. Owning several dogs, each with unique traits, helps me adjust my body language and tone to connect with the wedding dog. This subtle communication is important for helping the dog feel relaxed and bond with me.

The Morning After—A Heartfelt Thank You

The best part? A message from his dad the next morning:

"Thank you so much for today, it has been a massive weight off our minds and he’s been well taken care of."

More Than a Dog Sitter—A Wedding Dog Whisperer

Being a wedding dog chaperone isn’t just about holding the lead and keeping a pup occupied. It’s about tuning into their emotions, easing their stress, and ensuring they—and their pawrents—can fully enjoy the day.

From tail wags to tender moments, every wedding I’m part of is an honour. And earning the title of Wedding Dog Mother? That’s just the cherry on top.
